When should the arrival briefing be completed?
Acft configured to fly the arrival
Both pilots or PIC and instructor are ready
10 minutes before TOD and with the acft completely stabilized
What would happen if ATC interrupted or there’s any disagreement in the flight?
Briefing remains in standby until they are completely stabilized again
What does the pilot do 15 minutes before reaching the TOD?
Get details for destination
Prepares acft for arrival
What are the most important items for the pilot?
Getting ATIS info
Read Notams (get it from: IFR 2.11.1.2B
Check and prepare the arrival (Most important in case of a STAR Procedure)
Give the Arrival Briefing
What charts do we use for the arrival?
Arrival Charts, even if no Standard Arrival will be flown.
What’s important to check in these charts?
MSA
High Terrain
Possible dangers near the operation area of arrival
How do you read Arrival charts?
from top to bottom and from left to right
What information do the approach charts give us?
Info relating to procedure for landing
MSA
runway details
Info of airport
How are many apporach procedures published?
Per runway, all of them having the same details
How is the approach chart read?
In the same way as the Departure and Arrival Charts
What’s a special mention of the approach chart?
MSA is read when we start the explanation of the diagram and normally Missed Approach Details are read when completing the explanation of the diagram
Thus, the reading is from top to bottom and from left to right (excluding the Missed Approach Details and MSA)
What’s the most important in the briefing content?
Acft Status (malfunctions we found during flight or that we know before departure)
ATIS info and Airport Status (Notams)
Setting of the airplane to fly the arrival and approach
Checking the procedure (STAR, APP and possible important information about the area or procedure (MSA…)) including Go-Around
Acft configuration for landing (Flaps, Speeds…)
