Hypoxia (PK6) Flashcards
1
Q
Hypoxia definition
A
Inadequate delivery or consumption of O2 for metabolic needs of tissue/organism to maintain normal function
2
Q
Types of hypoxia
A
- Hypoxic hypoxia
- Anaemic hypoxia
- Stagnant hypoxia
- Histotoxic hypoxia
3
Q
What happens in hypoxic hypoxia?
A
- Low PaO2 + saturation of O2
- PaO2 < 8kPa (normally 12-13)
4
Q
Causes of hypoxic hypoxia
A
- Low PIO2
- Hypoventilation
- Diffusion limitation
- V/Q mismatch
- Shunt
5
Q
What happens in anaemic hypoxia?
A
- Normal PaO2 + saturation of O2
- Low Hb and/or low capacity
6
Q
Causes of anaemic hypoxia
A
- Blood loss
- CO poisoning
7
Q
What happens in stagnant hypoxia
A
Low Q (ie. shock)
8
Q
Causes of stagnant hypoxia
A
- Hypovolaemia
- Cardiac failure
9
Q
What happens in histotoxic hypoxia?
A
High PvO2 + SvO2 due to tissue inability to utilise O2
10
Q
Causes of histotoxic hypoxia
A
Cyanide poisoning
