Initial Considerations/Differential Diagnosis
A
- Fluid Intake/Fever/Sepsis
- Ambient temperature
- Time of exposure to heat/Thyroidism
- Exertion level
- Medications/drugs
- Attire

A
- Flushed
- Dry or sweaty
- Muscle cramps
- Nausea/vomiting
- Tachycardia/hypotension/poor perfusion
- Elevated temperature
- Altered mental status

Initial Actions if suspected heat related illness
A
- Move victim to a cool area and shield from sun or external heat
- Remove as much clothing as is practical and loosen any restrictive garments
- If alert and oriented, give small sips of cool liquids
- If altered, check blood glucose level

- Obtain IV Access
- Assess for Shock (hypotension, AMS)
- 20ml/kg of LR
- 3 lead ekg
- Consider A & B
