Human Eye Flashcards
What does the cornea do
Outside covering that protects the eye, focuses light rays
What does the pupil do
Controls the amount of light that enters the eye.
Expands to let in more light, contracts to let in less
What does the lens do
Transparent structure behind the pupil to help focus light rays onto retina
What does the Retina do
Receives and absorbs light
Processes images, has to get to retina to be processed
Sclera
Is a layer of connective tissue that protects the eye and makes the white of the eye and cornea
Choroid
Thin middle layer of the eye
- Absorbs excess light to prevent blurred vision
-Forms the iris
Rods in the retina
there are 125 million Rods are in the retina, they
-respond to low levels of light
-primarily involved in night vision
-not involved in colour vision
-poor at detecting fine details
Cones in the retina
there are 6-7 million cones in the retina, they
-respond to high levels of light
-best in well lit conditions
-colour vision
-fine details
