Gestalt Principles Flashcards
What do the gestalt principles refer to
The gestalt principles of visual perception refers to the way in which we organise the features of a visual scene by grouping them to perceive a complete image
What are the four gestalt principles of visual perception
Gestalt principles are:
-Figure-ground
-Closure
-Similarity
-Proximity
What is figure-ground
Figure ground is the organisation of visual information by dividing a visual scene into figure and background
What is Closure
Closure is a perceptual tendency to ‘close gaps’, fill in or ignore gaps in a visual image and to perceive incomplete objects as whole
What is similarity
involves the tendency to perceive parts of a image that have similar features
What is proximity
Is the tendency to perceive parts of a visual image which are positioned close together as belonging to a group
What do the visual perception principles do
Visual perception principles are what we apply to visual info to assist our organisation and interpretation in consistent and meaningful ways
