Attribution is the process by which people explain the causes of their own and others peoples behaviour

What is personal attribution

A

is an explanation due to characteristics of the person involved such as their,
-personality
-ability
-attitude
-motivation
-mood
-effort
these are internal factors that are sourced within the person. if we attribute behaviour to internal factors we tend to blame the person for causing the behaviour

A

situational attribution is an explanation due to factors external to the person such as
-actions of another person
-some aspect of the enviroment
-the task
-luck
-fate
our explanations are often reasonable and accurate but are vulnerable to bias

A

is the tendency to overestimate the influence of personal factors and underestimate the impact of situational factors on other peoples behaviour. when we do this we attribute a persons behaviour to internal rather than external factors
