Human cells Flashcards
describe how embryo develops and leads to the formation of a human
fertilization
is the formation of a diploid zygote from a haploid egg and sperm
followed by cleavage, a period of rapid mitotic division without growth
Name the three germ layers and explain what they are
ectoderm = epidermis of skin, the nervous system including the brain and sensory organs
mesoderm = the skeleton, muscles, blood vessels, heart, blood, kidneys
endoderm = lining of internal organs, including those of the digestive system, respiratory system, liver and pancreas
what are the 4 different types of adult tissues and what are their uses
Epithelial tissue = tightly packed cells, covers internal and external surfaces
Connective tissue = loosely packed cells, surrounded by abundant extracellular matrix
Muscle tissue = specialized for movement
Nerve tissue = transmission of the nerve impulses
what are the two main types of stem cells
A. embryonic
B. adult stem cell
C. germ-line
D. animal
A,B
what is Totipotent, Pluripotent, Multipotent
T = each cell can develop into a new indivdual
P= cells can form any (over 200) cell types
M= cells that are differentiated and can form a number of other tissues
what is nuclear transplantation used for
cloning method
