Explain the structure of HRT counselling
A
- Ask patient to explain situation
- What thoughts had they had about treatment
- What do they know about HRT
- Would they like to know more
- Ask about smoking, hypertension and previous cancers
- Follow ups are 3 months after starting then yearly reviews

What are the pros of HRT
A
- Significant benefits for hot flushes,
- Improves mood
- Improves vaginal dryness and sexual function,
- Reduces risk of osteoporosis
- Cardiovascular protection

Disadvantages of HRT
A
- Side effects,
- Risk of VTE,
- Risk of ischaemic stroke,
- Increases risk of breast/endometrial cancer

What are the side effects of HRT
A
Breast tenderness, leg cramps, bloating, nausea and headages, depression, pelvic pain and abnormal bleeding. If bleeding continues after 6 months then come back.

what are some contra-indications of HRT?
A
Breast cancer,
undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
Previous VTE
Untreated hypertension
