OSI Layer 7: Application Layer Basics
Provides network services to the applications of the user
Does not provide services to any other OSI layer
Establishes availability of intended communication partners
Synchronizes & establishes agreement on procedures for error recovery & control of data integrity
OSI Layer 6: Presentation Layer Basics
Ensures that info that is sent at the application layer of one system is readable by the application layer of another system
Can translate among multiple data formats using a common format
(Computers with different encoding schemes)
OSI Layer 5: Session Layer Basics
Establishes, manages, & terminates sessions between two hosts
Synchronizes dialog between the presentation layers of the two hosts & manages their data exchange
Offers efficient data transfer, CoS, & exception reporting of upper layer problems
