What 3 things are thyroid hormones responsible for?
-regulating metabolic rate
-managing metabolism of nutrients

Which hormone supports the growth of bones in childhood?
insulin-like growth hormone 1 (IGF-1)
What does juxtacrine mean?
hormones that act on receptors on their immediate neighbouring cell
Name a chemical messenger which can be both a neurotransmitter and a hormone
noradrenaline (norepinephrine)
What does thyroid hormone do as part of the stress response?
raises the body energy production by stimulating glycolysis
What is the difference between protein, steroid, and amine hormones?
-protein= made up of chains of amino acids, e.g ADH
-steroid= made up of lipids, e.g oestrogen
-amine= made up of amino acids
