Clonidine is a alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that can be useful for vasomotor symptoms and hot flushes
What are the indications for HRT?
Replacing hormones in premature ovarian insufficiency
Reducing vasomotor symptoms
Improving symptoms of reduced libido, poor sleep and low mood
Reducing osteoporosis risk
What are the risks of HRT?
Increased risk of breast cancer
Increased risk of endometrial cancer
Increased risk of venous thromboembolism
Increased risk of stroke
What are the contraindications to HRT?
Undiagnosed abnormal bleeding
Endometrial hyperplasia
Breast cancer
Uncontrolled hypertension
Venous thromboembolism
Liver disease
Angina or previous MI
Pregnancy
