What is atrophic vaginitis?
Dryness and atrophy of the vaginal mucosa due to a lack of oestrogen
Why does atrophic vaginitis occur?
During menopause, a reduction in oestrogen causes the vaginal mucosa to become thinner, less elastic and drier - this tissue is more prone to inflammation

What is the presentation of atrophic vaginitis?
Vaginal dryness
Itching
Dyspareunia

What will be seen on vaginal examination in a woman with atrophic vaginitis?
Pale mucosa
