Homeostasis Flashcards
1
Q
Negative feedback systems -
A
- Primary mechanism
- Maintain a normal range rather than a fixed value
- E.g Temp control , PH , blood sugar
2
Q
Positive feedback systems-
A
- Not as common
- Typically found where potentially dangerous or stressful process must be complete
- E.g haemostasis , labour and delivery
3
Q
What is Auto-regulation ( Intrinsic) mechanism-
A
Cells , tissues and organs adjust automatically to enviromental changes
4
Q
What is Extrinsic Regulation -
A
- Nervous system - Fast , short lasting , crisis management
- Endocrine system- Longer to react and Longer lasting
Parasympathetic - slow down events -rest and digest
Sympathetic - spped up - Fight and flight
