Q

Control center

A

Interprets info from receptor; decides the change needed, then tells the effector

Normal range

A

slight variation of the set point, but not considered abnormal

9
Q

Negative feedback

A

The action is in the opposite direction of stimulus; brings body back to its set point

Q

Positive feedback

A

The action furthers change in the same direction of stimulus; brings body farther from its set point

Q

Characteristics of homeostasis (associated with health and disease)

A
  1. They are dynamic
  2. Control system is generally the nervous or endocrine system
  3. 3 components (receptor, control center, effector)
  4. Typically regulated thru negative feedback to maintain a normal value or set point
  5. When systems fail, homeostatic imbalance or disease may result and could threaten survival
