What happens when we heat up?

Answer 1

• We sweat. When sweat evaporates it cools the body.
• Vasodilation. When our arterioles dilate making the blood flow closer to our skin and heat can be radiated more easily.
• Our hairs lie down on our body. For less insulating hair is trapped.

Question 2

What happens when we our too cold?

Answer 2

• Our hairs stand up on end so that more insulating air is trapped close to our skin to keep us warm.
• We shiver. The muscle contraction releases heat energy.
• Vasoconstriction. Arterioles constrict bringing blood away from skin surface so less heat is radiated.
