Using bacterial cell plasmids and inserting genes into them, forcing bacteria to produce lots of insulin.
1. Cut open plasmid using restriction enzyme.
2. Use restriction enzyme to cut out insulin gene.
3. Insert that insulin gene into that bacterial plasmid using ligase enzyme.
4. Place bacterial cell into fermenter.

Once a plasmid has a different gene inserted into it its called a recombinant plasmid.
