Circulatory System Flashcards
What are the differences between ventricles and atria?
Ventricle walls are thicker than atria because they pump blood further and at a higher pressure.
Whats a double circulatory system?
Blood is pumped into the heart twice for every once it passes around the rest of the body.
What are arteries?
Carry blood away from the heart. The walls of arteries can withstand high pressures by stretching and reoiling.
What are veins?
Carries blood from organs back to heart. Contains less elastic tissue because they cant take high pressures.
Whats CHD?
A narrowing of the coronary arteries.
This normally occurs when fatty deposits accumulates on the artery walls creating plaques. This makes it difficult for blood to flow to the heart.
What are cappilaries?
Tiny vessels that supply all cells with oxygen.
What are platelets?
Clot the blood at the site of a wound. They form scabs by converting soluble fibrinogen into insolble fibrin.
