In September 1979. Thousands of Muslims joined the Mujahideen, a guerrilla movement on a mission for Allah to commit holy war - Jihad. The Soviet assistance increased and the Amin government relied on Soviet equipment. However, Amin wanted some independence and even wanted improved links with the US.
