HIV Flashcards

1
Q

Briefly describe the pathophysiology of HIV

A

HIV binds via gp120 to CD4 (expressed on Th Cells, monocytes, macrophages)

CD4+ cells migrate to lymphoid tissue where virus
replicates → infection of new CD4+ cells

Depletion and impaired function of CD4+ cells →
immune dysfunction.
