Four layers of cells
A
- Mucosa is innermost (lining epithelium, lamina propria, muscularis mucosae)
- Submucosa: loose connective tissue with larger blood vessels, lymphatics, nerves and mucous
- Muscularis propria: inner lyer is circular, outer is longitudinal - peristalsis
- Advenitia: outermost layer of connective tissue - covered by peritoneum
