Four layers of cells

A
  • Mucosa is innermost (lining epithelium, lamina propria, muscularis mucosae)
  • Submucosa: loose connective tissue with larger blood vessels, lymphatics, nerves and mucous
  • Muscularis propria: inner lyer is circular, outer is longitudinal - peristalsis
  • Advenitia: outermost layer of connective tissue - covered by peritoneum
