Hip & Pelvis Flashcards
What are the normal views of the hip & pelvis
AP sacrum
Lateral sacrum
AP pelvis
AP hip
What are the special views of the hip & pelvis
AP coccyx
Lateral coccyx
Frog leg projection
What is teardrop distance
The distance between the most medial margin of the femoral head and the outer cortex of the pelvic teardrop is measured
Average = 9mm
What is hip joint space width
Superior joint space (average = 4mm)
Axial joint space (average = 4mm)
Medial joint space (average = 8mm)
What is Kleins line
A line to the outer margin of the femoral neck, femoral head shoulder overlap
If no overlap could be a slippage of the femoral capital epiphysis
What is acetabular depth
A line from the superior margin of the pubis at the symphysis joint to the upper outer acetabular margin
Male average = 13mm
Female average = 12mm
What is protrusio acetabuli
A line from the pelvic inlet and outer boarder of the obutorator foramen
What is shentons line
A curved line from the undersurface of the femoral neck across the joint to the inferior margin of the superior pubic ramus
The line should be smooth, an interrupted line suggests dislocation, femoral neck fracture or slipped femoral capital epiphysis
What is the femoral angle
Two lines parallel to the mid axis of the femoral shaft and femoral neck
< 120* = coxa vara
> 130* = coxa valga
What is the symphysis pubis width
The measured distance between the opposing articular surfaces between the superior and inferior margins
Male average = 6mm
Female average = 5mm
