manipulation
the skillful/ devious excretion of influence over someone to get them to do what you want want, often by providing incomplete or selctive info
Threats
the suggestion thats some sort of negative consequence will occur if employee fail to follow a requested change
how do managers employees into accepting change?
-hiding info or not telling employee full truth of change
-not giving employees enough time to understand things and forcing them to make a decision quickly
-giving diff employees different info
long term consequences of manipulation
-Employees later find out the whole truth and resists the change even more
-Employees feel tricked and lose trust in managers and lose motivations
managers can THREATEN employees into accepting a change by:
-telling them they will loose their jobs if they dont accept the change
-telling them they will not receive future pay rise or promotions
Thereats may have negative consequemnces because:
-Employees seem to accept the change but are still resistant underneath
-Employees make threats themselves, such as threatening to go on a strike
Advantages
-change occurs faster
-lower costs (no training, bonouses)
disadvantage
-increase in staff turnover and loss of employees experities
-loss of motivation and productivity in the long term
-for example if u threaten someone too often, it will come to a piont where the threat no longer scares them.
