Heredity Flashcards
How can you tell the difference between a dominant and a recessive gene?
The dominate gene is letters are in capitals.
What are alleles?
The genes of a corresponding pair.
What is heterozygotes?
Two different alleles for a particular gene.
What is homozygous?
Two of the same alleles whether dominant or recessive.
What is a genotype?
The genetic constitution of an organism.
What is a 4(2) generation?
The offspring of heterozygotes.
What is phenotype?
The viable or physiological characteristics of an organism.
How many x chromosomes do females have?
2
How many x and y chromosomes do males have?
1 x and 1 y.
What is the ratio for successive mating of the heterozygotes?
3:1
What is a punnett square?
A way of working out the possible combination of genes.
