Q

Steps of cell division in plants.

A
  1. A plant ready to divide has a large nucleus, dense cytoplasm and no vacuole.
  2. A line of cytoplasm in the middle of the cell starts to form a new boundary between the cells. (The nucleus divides first and a new cell wall forms.)
  3. One of the new cells enlarges and vacuoles appear in the cytoplasm. Each cell contributes to a new cellulose wall on each side of the boundary.
  4. The vacuoles begin to join up and absorb water cause the cell to expand.
  5. Vacuole formation is now complete and the cell is fully expanded.(The pressure of the vacuole has forced the cell to expand.)

Q

What are chromosomes?

A

Thread-like structures which are always present in the cells but only become apparent at division. Containing “instructions” which control what the cell will be.
