Hematology Flashcards
Blood composition
plasma-55% proteins, water, solutes
Buffy coat -platelets, leukocytes
Erythrocytes- 45%
What is serum
Plasma w/o clotting factor
Heme-
Globin-
Iron
Protein
phils are
granulocytes
What is a neutrophil called
Band
Thrombocytes are
platelets
what destroys RBC
Macrophages
how long until a reticulocyte matures?
48hrs
Anemia is measured by blank blank and give values
Hgb/Hct 10 and 30 are considered anemia
3 causes of anemia
Deficiency in number erythrocytes, q/q of heme, volume of packed red blood cells
What is hematocrit
(PCV) packed cell volume- How many RBC are in the blood.
Icteric
Yellow eyes
Anemia can cause
Fluid build up from increased CO
ataxia
balance issues
s/s and value of mild Anemia 3
10-12 palpitation, dyspnea, mild fatigue
s/s mod and value
6-10 and mild symptoms but at rest
s/s severe value 2
Vertigo, confusion less than 6
Thalassemia
group of diseases poor hemoglobin deficient in globulin protein
megaloblastic anemia
impaired DNA synthesis have large RBC so they can be destroyed easily
Pernicious anemia 3 + one s/s
absence of intrinsic factor, insidious onset, more neurological symptoms plus symptoms for anemia beefy red tongue.
What does the intrinsic factor do?
helps absorb vit b
Aplastic anemia risk for? 3
auto-immune that targets blood cell production Infection bleeding, shock
Acquired hemolytic anemia is and can cause 3
Normal RBC but external forces are causing damage jaundice, spleen and liver enlargement because of hyperactivity.
