Cirrhosis Flashcards
Risk factors for cirrhosis? 7
Can be caused by hepatitis C infection, alcohol-induced liver disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, autoimmune hep, toxins, Prolonged bil obstruction, idiopathic
What is Cirrhosis?
Irreversible inflammatory fibrotic liver disease
Patho of cirrhosis 5 leading to each other
Necrosis-fibrosis-structure change-hepatic insufficiency-liver fail
Manifestations of cirrhosis 10
Jaundice, skin legions, hematic problems, endocrine problems, peripheral neuropathy, hepatic encephalopathy, spider angioma, mm wasting, dilated vessels, ascites, fatigue, pruritus
Why skin legions with cirrhosis?
increase in estrogen because the liver can’t metabolize steroid hormones.
What/why heme problems with c?
Blood penia because of back up into spleen and annemia coagulation problems because liver can’t make clotting factors any more.
Complications of liver fail and portal HTN 4
Bleeding gastric and esophageal varices, edema. liver cancer, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis
Why Ascites?
Med term??
Lack of albumin
Colloidal oncotic pressure
hepatic Encephalopathy manifestations 6
asterixis, hyperventilation, hypothermia, apraxia, tongue fasciculations, fector hepaticas
care for encephalopathy 4
lactulose, antibiotics, lower protein intake, gi bleeds
Hepatorenal syndrome Manifestations
azotemia, oliguria, intractable ascites
What is the most life threatening complication of cirrhosis?
Varicosities hemorrhage
Where does edema go?2
Sacrum and ankles
Why ascites and what type of fluid? 3
serous fluid.
Lymph cant get rid of prots and water, hyperaldosternoism, and adh
Complications from ascites 3
Hypovolemia, bacterial peritonitis, e. coli (after hem) respiratory complications
