Heart and circulation Flashcards
1
Q
What is the route of blood in the heart?
A
- de-oxygenated blood returns via veins into right atrium
- from right atrium to right ventricle through the tricuspid valve
- from right ventricle to pulmonary trunk
- pulmonary trunk divides into pulmonary arteries to the lungs
- oxygenated blood returns in pulmonary veins to the left atrium
- from left atrium to left ventricle through the mitral valve
- from left ventricle to aorta to the rest of the body
2
Q
How does blood enter the right atrium?
A
via the superior and inferior vena cavae and the coronary sinus
3
Q
How does blood enter the left atrium?
A
via 4 pulmonary veins
4
Q
How many valves are there in the heart?
A
4 - two atrioventricular valves (mitral and tricuspid) and two semilunar (aortic and pulmonary)
