Heart Anatomy Flashcards
Myocardium
Heart tissue that is mainly cardiac muscle
Pericardium
Double membrane sac that surrounds the heart
Coronary arteries
Brings oxygenated blood to myocardium
Atrioventricular valves (AV)
Right AV has 3 flaps (tricuspid)
Left AV has 2 flaps (bicuspid)
1 kind of heart valve
Atrioventricular valves function
Blood returning to the heart fills the atria, pressuring the AV’s to open
As ventricles fill, AV’s flaps hang into ventricles
Atria contracts, forcing more blood into ventricles
Semi-lunar valves
-2 kind of heart valve
-Between ventricle and aorta
-As ventricles contract, pressure is increased and blood is pushed against the semi lunar valves, forcing them open
-As ventricles relax, pressure falls and blood flows back from arteries, forcing the valves closed
