heart Flashcards
which layer of pericardium is pain sensitive?
Parietal pericardium
Where does the fibrous pericardium attach?
Mediastinum, pleura & central tendon of diaphragm.
What is the fibrous pericardium?
Connective tissue surrounding the outside of the pericardial sac.
What does the visceral pericardium cover?
Covers the heart (epicardium) and bases of great vessels.
What is the heart lined with?
Endocardium - endothelium + small amount underlying connective tissue
Borders of the heart?
Superior border, left border, right border,
Where does the right atrium receive blood from?
Systemic circulation.
- Superior vena cava SVC (blood from body/head)
- Inferior vena cava IVC (blood from body)
- Coronary sinus
- Vena cordis minimae
- anterior cardiac veins
How much of coronary circulation does coronary sinus drain? What drains the remainder of the circulation?
60% - vena cordis minimae & anterior cardiac veins
What are the internal features of the right atrium?
Anterior - rough (PECTINATE muscles)
- fossa ovalis
- crista terminalis
Posterior - smooth
What is the fossa ovalis?
Closed over remnant of embryonic opening between atria - foramen ovale.
What is the raised edge of the fossa ovalis called?
Limbus
What is the corresponding feature on the outside of the heart to crista terminalis?
Sulcus terminalis
Where is the mitral valve located?
Left atrioventricular valve - between the left atrium and ventricle
What is the right atrioventricular valve?
Tricuspid.
WHat are the leaflets of the AV valves attached to?
Chorda tendinae
What are the muscles in the ventricles that pull on the chorda tendinae?
papillary muscles.
