What is the range of sounds humans can hear?
20 Hz and 20 kHz
Above 20 kHz - is ultrasound
Below 20 Hz - is infrasound
What are the 3 parts the ear is made out of?

What is the function of the pinna?
Serves as protection for the delicate inner parts of the ear
What does the external auditory meatus do?
Collects sounds and direct it toward the ear drum
How does the shape of the pinna help?
The shape helps to detect where the sounds are coming from in there vertical plane
Why is the tympanic membrane important?
It vibrates in response to sound
What is the name of the 3 ossicles?
Malleus, Incus and the Staples
What does the 3 ossicles do?
Transfers the energy to the endolymph fluid in the cochlea.
What are the 2 distinct portions of the inner ear?
Vestibular portion - for balance
Auditory portion - for hearing
What is the name of the 3 semicircular canals in the vestibular portion?
Ampulla
Utricle
Saccule
What are the 3 distinct sections the cochlea is split into?
Scala vestibule
