What is health?
a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being
*What is the nurses role in caring for clients with acute vs chronic illness?
to motivate and facilitate change through establishing goals, encouraging participation and identifying steps to reach goals. Also by acting as role models, counseling, support, and a holistic presence
What is wellness?
optimal health and well-being in which mind, body, and spirit are integrated
What is illness?
can be acute or chronic and is subjective/unique to each client
What are the stages of illness?
symptoms, rick role behavior, seeking care, dependence on others, recovery
What are factors that affect health and client experience?
biological, nutrition, physical activity, rest, lifestyle, culture, religion, environment, finances
Factors that disrupt health?
disease, injury, mental illness, pain, loss, isolation…
What are social determinates of health?
The conditions in the environments where people are born, live, learn, play, worship, and age
What are the 5 areas of social determinants of health?
economic stability, education, social, health, environment
Health equity vs health disparities
HE- having the same access to services
HD- health differences that detrimentally impact specific groups of people.
*Stages of Health prevention
Primary- to prevent/slow disease
Secondary- to screen for disease/related edu
Tertiary- to stop disease progression
What are health promotion settings?
healthcare, clinics with large companies, local schools
How can we facilitate change?
precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, termination
