What is Self-image determined by ?
Self-image is determined in the Early Childhood [3-8 years old] by the quality of social interaction and the influence of parents or caregivers.
What is one way to help a child to have a positive self-image.
One way is for a parent to makes positive comments about a child’s appearance in a consistent way.
What happens if parents ignores there child ?
If a parent ignores a child or constantly makes negative comments then this can impact on the way the child begins to see and think about themselves.
What is an individual’s self-image be based off ?
An individual’s self-image can be based off a real or distorted view of who they actually are. It does not necessarily reflect reality. Feeling about image can become internalised and affect how an individual acts.
Why is physical appearance important in the Adolescence life stage ?
Adolescence [9-18 years old], physical appearance is important to adolescence because teenagers come to terms with changes in their body shape and sometimes unwanted physical characteristics, such as acne.The media often portray an ideal image of the female and male figure advertisements.
What does Self-image mean
Self-image more than what an individual looks like or how other people see the individual. It is also how a person thinks, feels and react to self-perceived physical attributes.
What type of eating disorders can link to a negative self-image ? [In Young people]
A young person with anorexia or bulimia who is thin may have a self-image in which they see themselves as fat.
What can a negative body image lead to ?
A negative body image can lead to psychological problems including anxiety, eating disorders, depression and a negative feeling of self-worth.
What can self-image be affected by ?
Self-image can be affected by life events and social roles. These influence how others see us and how we define ourselves.
What can influence personal traits in a person ?
Life events, role and status can influence personal traits that can be an important part of self-image. This lead to self-description that can include things like “I am impulsive, I am generous, I tend to worry a lot.
What do young people have a tendency of doing that older people don’t have ?
Young people have a tendency to describe themselves in terms of personal traits. Whereas older people feel defined by their social status.[ I am a mother, I am a wife]
Why is it important to understand Self-image ?
Understanding self-image is very important because it explains how an individual thinks about themselves and how they interact with other people and the world around them.

The benefits of having a positive self-image can be that it can enhance physical, social, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

It’s to be aware of the great differences between generations and cultural variations in a way in which individuals will experience social relationships during their course of life.
What is Social Development ?
Social Development involves learning how to interact socially with other individuals in the family and society in general.
What are the benefits of Social Development provide ?
Social Development provides the opportunities and skills that enable people relationships. Not all individuals will experience social relationship in the same way.
How do children gain basic social skills ?
Children learn and practise basic social skills through play. They develop a sense of self learn to interact with other children, how to make friends and how to role play.

What is Solo play ?
When infants play independently it is know as solo play.
What does Solo play provide ?
Solo play provides Infants to explore the environment at their own pace. It can help infants to focus their attention, become self-reliant, learn by making mistakes and increase their self-esteem.
What is Parallel Play
Parallel play happens between the ages of 2 years and 3 years infant move from solo play to playing alongside other children. During this time they have not developed the sharing and turn-taking skills required for group or co-operative play.
Why is this different to infants playing in water and sand ?
Infants playing in water and sand is different because of the little interaction when playing in these activities. As each infant will be engrossed in their own independent activity, which is not influenced or shared with others
What do infants show interest in ?
Infants show an interest in what other children are doing and will still like to be in the presence of adults of other children, but may not interact with older children.
What happen between the ages of 3-8 years in a child’s social development
Between the ages of 3 years and 8 years, children begin to widen their social network group and form friendships with their peers and other adults. By the age of 3 years a child has become more co-operative in their play, helped by their language development. [An example, moving away from having temper tantrums if they cannot get there own way, playing together with children and sharing toys]
