What is the Sensorimotor Stage ?

Sensorimotor Stage is between Birth- 2 years. Infants at this age are egocentric thinkers meaning that there are not being able to see a situation from another person perspective. Piaget thought that young children assumes that other people can see, hear and feel the exact same as they do. Infants in this stage think by interacting with the world using their, eyes, ears, hands and mouth. Infants want to solve problems like by pulling a lever to hear the sound of a music box.

What is Pre operational Stage ?

Pre operational Stage is between the ages of 2-7 years. At this stage children use symbols to represent their earlier sensorimotor discoveries. Development of language an make-believe play takes place in this stage. Piaget believes that children at this stage cannot properly understand ideas like number, mass and volume really work. A child might be able to count to 100 but can’t understand what a set of 10 is. Children in this stage are still egocentric thinkers.

What is Concrete Operational Stage ?

The Concrete Operational Stage is between 7-11 years old. In this stage children’s reasoning becomes logical. Children may be able to understand simple logical principles. However children 7-8 years old might find it difficult to imagine the information needed to answer the question.
