Describe the procedure (PART 1)
A
- For each social group, there were 7 trials all lasting 25 minutes. Observed using 2 video cameras.
- Each trial began with the group of monkeys indoors. While 1 plush toy and 1 wheeled toy were placed 10 meters apart in the outdoor enclosure.
- One video recorder was directed towards each toy. The plush and wheeled toys were counterbalnced (between left and right locations on each trial)

Describe the procedure (part 2)
A
- After each trial, the toys were removed. The video tape was analysed by 2 observers working together to achieve a conseus.
- Using a behavioural checklist, they identified every animal interacting with a toy and coded specfic activities directed towards the toys.
- The extact time the activity occured was recorded. The frequency of each behaviour was recorded. The duration of continious activities was recorded.
