Hasset et al (issues and debates) Flashcards
1
Q
Nature explanations
A
- The results showed that male monkeys prefferred wheeled toys. While females preffered plush toys.
- These results aligned with evolutionary theories that biological differences between males and females may be driven by hormonal influences
2
Q
Nurture explanations
A
- The results showed that female monkeys didnt really have a preffernces for stereotypically gendered toys
- These results suggest that the** socialisation of boys** drives these observed differences. Which may link to social learning or operant conditioning
3
Q
Situational explanations
A
- The monkeys were placed in a new, possibly exciting sitution.
- This situation may have encouraged them to engage more with the toys and even how they played with the toys.
- But it doesn’t explain why males preffered wheeled toys (could be nature)
4
Q
Indiviudal explanations
A
- Overall trends showed a preference for wheeled toys in males and plush toys in females. However, not ALL monkeys CONFORMED to these preferences.
- Suggesting there may be individual differneces/ predispositions that affected/ contribute to toy preferences (beyond enviromental influences)
