What is the procedure for handling juveniles?

A

SF will contact and brief the SJA any time a juvenile is detained for a violation.
For minor traffic violations, SF will process juveniles the same as adult offenders

What is the procedure for interviewing juveniles?

A

SF will not interview juveniles until at least one parent or guardian is present, unless exigent circumstances, which must be documented. Exception: If the parent or guardian refuses or declines to be present, cannot respond in a timely manner, or cannot be reached, an additional SF member or the sponsor’s First Sergeant will be present during the interview.

A

SF will advise both the parent or guardian and the juvenile of the juvenile’s rights in accordance with the Fifth Amendment, United States Constitution. Document rights advisement via AF Form 1168, Statement of Suspect/Witness/Complainant.

A

SF will release juveniles to their parent or guardian via DD Form 2708, Receipt for Pre-Trial/Post-Trial Prisoner or Detained Person.
