PROTON PUMP INHIBITORS - mechanisms of action

A

irreversible inhibition by covalent modification of the gastric gland parietal cell H+/K+
proton pump = final common pathway

prodrugs - activated in the acidic environment of the canaliculus contributing to their effectiveness and selectivity of action

take PO are absorbed and subsequently delivered to the stomach for activation

peptide ulcers, DU or GU

dyspepsia and GORD

helicobacter pylori infection
amoxicillin, metronidazole, clathithromycin in conjunction with omeprazole
