What are risk factors for Neonatal GBS infection?

A

Prematurity
Prolonged rupture of membranes
Maternal fever during labour
Previous sibling with GBS
Positive GBS culture in pregnancy

What is the management of GBS?

A

Routine screening not offered

If positive
- IV abx offered during labour (when membranes rupture or labour starts) Same if previous GBS positive
- Benpen= drug of choice

Women with pyrexia during labour should also receive abx

What should be done in women with asymptomatic bacteruria?

A

GBS bacteria >10^5 should recieve PO amoxicillin at time of diagnosis and IV abx during labour
