What is it?
A
Umbilical cord descends ahead presenting part of foetus
Can lead to cord compression or cord spasm causing foetal hypoxia and potential death

What are the risk factors?
A
Breech presentation
Multiparity
Prematurity
Twin pregnancy
Polyhydraminos
Cephalopelvic disproportion
Artificual rupture of membranes

What is the management?
A
Obstetric emergency
Push presenting part of foetus back into uterus
Patient on all 4s
Tocolytics
Emergency C section- if head low and cervix dilated then can try instrumental

What are symptoms?
A
Sharp abdo pain
Pressure in pelvis
Foetal distress- bradycardia, Variable CTG
Maternal distress- hypotension, tachycardia
