Who was Dioscorides? (70ce).
Greek physician with the Roman Army.
What did Dioscorides compose?
De Materia Medica. It describes about 500 different drugs and was influential for the next 1500 years.
Why is there a dog when gathering mandrake?
Because it was thought that the mandrake root screamed and lead to a loss of sanity or life.
What was mandrake root used for? (2)
- Rheumatism. 2. Internally for pain to induce delirium or anesthesia before surgery.
