Mass of compound present can be found by changing that substance to another of know chemical composition.
We then weigh to constant mass using a dessicator to heat and dry the substance. We then weigh and repeat until constant mass is obtained.
This can be used to determine the quantities present in solution.

Substance is reacted with reagent to form precipitate, this is filtered off from rest of the reaction mixture.
