Elimination reactions Flashcards
1
Q
When monohaloalkanes go under elimination reactions what product is formed?
A
An Alkene
2
Q
What conditions must be present for an elimination reaction?
A
Heating under reflux in ethanol
3
Q
Process of monohaloalkane to alkene.
A
Hydrogen adjacent to halogen attacked by OH- for example, covalent bond will form between the two. Electrons from bond will be pushed down to the C-C bond between attacked hydrogen and halogen. Bond between halogen and carbon breaks and electrons go to halogen. Leaving a water, an alkene and a negative halogen ion.
