Graphing Vocab Flashcards
Line graph
A graph in which points representing values of the variable for suitable values of an independent variable are connected by a broken line
Bar Graph
A graph or chart that uses narrow columns of different heights to show and compare different amounts
Circle graph
A chart consisting of a circle that is divided into parts to show the size of the different amounts that are a part of the whole amount
dependent variable
Mathematical variable whose value is determined by that of one or more other variables in a function
Independent variable
A variable whose values are specified first or before an experiment is performed and are used to find values of an expression, another variable, or a function that depends on the first variable
Graph
A diagram that represents the variation of a variable in comparison with that of one or more other variables (A series of one or more points, lines, line segments, curves, or areas
When is a Bar graph used?
Comparing information collected by counting
When is a line graph used?
To show trends or how the data changes over time
When is a circle graph used?
To show how a fixed quantity is broken down into parts
