granular epithelium Flashcards
what are glands?
derivatives of surface epithelium. invigination into connective tissue .
what is the difference between endocrine and exocrine
exocrine passes secretion through duct system body surface . usually they secrete enzymes
endocrine glands are ductless and secrete directly into the blood or lymph . usually they secure hormones
what are mixed glands?
glands that can secrete some of its secretions into duct and some directly into blood . like the liver and pancreas
list and describe the types of exocrine glands.
- )unicellular :(ex; goblet cell) a single cell is a complete gland
- )multi cellular :each gland is formed by more than one cell
what are the categories of glands according to mode of secretion ?
holocrine : the whole body of the cell ruptures when secretion is made . ed: sebaceous gland
apocrine : losses small portion of cell body during secretion (mammary gland )
merocrine : only cell products are discharged , they leave the gland by exocytosis without loosing any part of the cell membrane .ex: salivary gland .
what are the categories of glands according to nature of secretion ?
serous gland: secretes thin watery substance that is rich in water , enzyme and proteins .ex: parotid gland ,salivary gland .
under the microscope it is stained darkly with H/E stain .
it Is usually small in size , rounded, cells will be pyramidal in shape, nucleus will be rounded and basal
mucus gland : secretes viscous mucus that contains mucopolysaccharides instead of proteins . it is very thick and faint when stained with H/E stain. cells are large , compressed and peripheral . nucleus are flat and bushed to basement membrane
what are mixed glands ?
have both types of secretory units, .however sometimes the gland will be mucus but covered with serous demilunes
how are glands categorized based on the shape of secreting unit?
simple glands : gland doesn’t have branched duct .
compound glands : if the excretory duct is branched
these glands are typically bulky and contain many individual secretory units
what are the 2 main components of any gland?
connective tissue capsule that divides the gland and epithelial component.
what’s the epithelium components of the gland?
duct system
and secretory unit
what are the types of simple glands and compound glands?
- ) alveolar ( acinar ) : if the secretory unit is rounded
- ) tubular : if the secretory unit is in the shape of tubule
- ) tubulo-alveolar: combination of both tubular and alveolar
when identifying a gland first look at the duct , if it is branched it is compound , if it is not , it is simple . then look at the secretory unit . if it is a circle it is alveolar . if it is tubule shaped , it is tubular . if it is a combination of both , it is tubulo-alveolar
.
2.5)
simple tubular : intestinal gland .
coiled tubulars: simple coiled gland (sweat gland )
simple tubular : intestinal gland
compound tubuloacinar : sub mandibular gland
compound tubular : deudeunal gland
compound acinar : mammary gland

deminules of guanize are?
serous deminules found around mucous acini to form mixed gland
