Connective tissue 2 Flashcards
what are the 2 major categories of connective tissue ?
connective tissue proper and specialized connective tissue
what are the 2 subgroups of connective tissue proper?
loose connective tissue(highly vascular) and dense connective tissue ( non vascular )
what are the 3 types of loose connective tissue ?
areolar tissue :
adipose tissue :
reticular tissue :
what is the most widely distributed connective tissue in the body?
areolar connective tissue ( contains most fibers )
what is the most common cell in areolar connective tissue ?
fibroblast . it also contains macrophages , plasma cells , adipocytes , mast cells and few white blood cells
what type of ground substance is present in loose areolar connective tissue ?
semi-fluid (hyaluronic acid , chondroitin sulfate , dermatan sulfate , and keratin sulfate
what is an example of areolar connective tissue ?
dental pulp
what is the main type of cell present in adipose tissue ?
adipocytes
what from does adipocytes store lipids or energy ?
triglycerides
where is adipose tissue present
?
subcutaneous layer just under the dermis and epidermis , around organs and in the yellow marrow of long bones
what is the function of reticular loose connective tissue ?
forms the framework to help protect soft organs .(liver , spleen , and lymph nodes. (stroma)
what are the 3 types of dense connective tissue ?
dense regular : fibers are arranged parallel to each other
dense irregular : fibers are arranged irregularly
elastic : fibers are mainly elastic fibers
describe the structure of dense regular connective tissue .
bundles of collagen fibers arranged in parallel patterns to give maximum strength , it has a silver white appearance
where can dense regular connective tissue be found ?
tendons and ligaments
describe the structure of dense irregular connective tissue .
collagen fibers arranged in an irregular way ( non parallel)
