Grant Flashcards
What is the aim of grants study?
To investigate context dependency effects on memory recall with the prescense or absence of noise during encoding and recall.
What is Grants sample?
39 undergraduate students
All acquaintances of the 8 experiments
What sampling method did Grant use?
Opportunity sampling
What experiment did grant use?
Lab experiment
What design did grant use?
Independant measures.
What is the IV for grants study?
4 conditions, matched and unmatched (silent silent, noisy noisy, silent noisy, noisy silent)
What is the DV for Grants study?
Score out of 26 on the recall and recognition task
Name the 4 apparatus Grant used in his study.
Tape
headphones
recall task
recognition task
Outline Grants study.
Participants are tested alone-asked to read an article either in a silent or noisy condition
silent-wore headphones
noisy-headphones with cafe background music
Particpants had a 2 minute break to allow them to process the info out of their memory
Given multiple choice and short answer questions out of 26 either a matched or unmatched condition.
Scores recorded out of 26
What were the results from grants study?
silent/silent group scored highest with a mean percentage of 81% and silent/noisy lowest at 67%
No SIGNIFICANT DIFF in the time it took participants to read the article.
What was the conclusion from Grants study?
Memory is improvbed due to context dependancy, and if you encode in silence the you should recall in silence in order for the best results.
