To develop an advanced test for theory of mind in adults, the eyes test, in order to compare with normal adults and adults with Tourette’s syndrome

What is the procedure of Baron-Cohen?
1.Participants all tested alone.
2.Ps did a basic emotion recognition task and gender recognition task to control for individual differences.
3.Tasks done in a random order so individual differences didn’t impact the score out of 25.
4.Eye task consisted of 25 black and white pairs of eyes, all of the the same region of the face and shown at the same amount of time.
5.Participants had to choose the state of mood , target was decided by a panel of unbiased men and women.
6.Scored out of 25.
7. Happes strange stories task- fictional stories with ambiguous messages and has to decide the characters emotional state or intention, done to check for concurrent validity.
What were the results of Baron-Cohens study?
- Eyes task; Significantly lower for autistic group 16.3 compared to Tourette’s group at 20.4 and normal 20.3.
