What are the Xray characteristics of gout ?

A

Soft tissue - Swelling/ effusion/ Gas and tophi in the soft tissue
Bone - Regional Osteopenia, Rat- Bite erosions.

What do the bony erosions look like in gout ?

A

RAT BITE EROSIONS - They tend to occur away from the joint margins. Spherical with a deep punched out appearance. They have sclerotic borders.

A

Uric acid. This causes uric acid crystals around the joint.

What is Gout ?

A

It is a form of a crystal arthropathy. This occurs when crystal of uric acid accumulate on the articular cartilage with provokes an inflammatory response.
