BREIF IDEA ON PATHOGENISIS OF DJD Flashcards
Why does degenerative changes in bones usually occur ?
Overuse and excessive pressure on that joint.
After wear and tear of a joint what is your bodies first response ?
It is an inflammatory response and an increase in white blood cells in that area after increasing the vascular permeability in that area.
How is an inflammatory arthropathy caused by white blood cells ?
Once these white blood cells enter the damaged site, white blood cells can mistakably eat away at healthy cartilage tissue.
Can you see an erosive (inflammatory arthropathy) and sclerotic (degenerative) change in the same joint ?
YES,
It can be as a result of healing the inflammatory process you also get degenerative changes in the same joint.
Name three basic principles seen in inflammatory arthritis ?
1Affects the Synovium.
2 Uniform joint space narrowing.
3 Erosions of articular bone.
What is the difference between an inflammatory arthritis and degenerative arthritis ?
Inflammatory is an inflammatory response in that joint.
Degenerative is wear and tear in that joint.
Name four basic principles seen in degenerative arthritis ?
1Irregular joint space narrowing.
2. Wearing down of articular cartilage.
3 Osteophytes. (body tries to fic the degeneration resulting in osteophytes.)
4 Wearing down of articular bone.
Name three basic characteristics a metabolic arthritis may have ?
1 Normal joint.
2 Sharply margined erosions.
3 Soft tissue masses.
What would help you to differentiate between a metabolic arthritis and a degenerative arthritis ?
Metabolic arthritis will have normal joint spaces and sharply margined erosions. Also soft tissue involvement.
