Q

suffering can be a blessing Jesus

A

· Suffering can be a blessing Jesus reminds his followers of this during his beatitudes. He blesses those who mourn, the poor and those who suffer. We would never usually see this people as blessed but God looks at the world differently so that those who are the lowest in the world’s eyes are often those closest to God.

Q

Love can be impossible without suffering

A

Love can be impossible without suffering, loving another person means you would do anything for them. Even sacrificing your own pleasures and comforts “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” John 15:13

Q

Mackie and free will

A

Mackie also rejects free will as a response to the problem of evil. He cannot see why a loving God would not make free human beings who always choose good instead of evil. Mackie feels that evil and suffering is far too high a price to pay for having free will.

Q

all loving, all powerful and all knowing

A

· God cannot be all loving, all powerful and all knowing if evil exists. Hume states if God wants to stop suffering but cannot then he must not be all powerful. I God can stop suffering but does not want to, then he must not be all loving.
